Subject: Did Libby Lie?

Dear Mr. Velvel,

I read your article "Did Libby Lie" with great interest. Your argument is very clear and insightful. There is an underlying assumption that may not be true, though. And that is that there were no other reasons for "outing" Valerie Plame. You will remember that she was tracking illegal trade in nuclear and other WMDs. There was an article the other day on Wayne Madsen Report http://www.waynemadsenreport.com/(November 5) to the effect that Eric Edelman, the US ambassador to Turkey was implicated with illegal arms and drug shipments carried out by interests that linked Israel, Turkey and the US, specifically the Whitehouse. Mr. Edelman previously worked at the Whitehouse. This very likely is connected with what Mrs Sibel Edmonds discovered while at the FBI working on the 9/11 investigation. If Valerie Plame or anyone else at Brewster Jennings (remember it shut the whole firm down) was on the trail and it led to the Whitehouse, then the game was more than worth the candle and would (in my mind, at least) explain the rush and subsequent clumsiness.

Do you know if Patrick Fitzgerald has interviewed Valerie Plame? If my supposition above is close and Fitzgerald has interviewed Joseph Wilson, then it would be extremely unlikely that he DIDN'T interview her.

If Fitzgerald has interviewed Wilson and not Plame, then I would consider that I am barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks again for your informative and clear article.

Regards,

Jim Shanahan

P.S. I have just noted that the Madsen report has been updated. I think you will find it of interest if you are unaware of this link
