Dear Larry,

The rich get richer, and the poor-- well, you know. Not that I'm complaining. My job, which I still enjoy (the classroom part anyway) involves no heavy lifting and no dirt other than chalk dust.

Any criticism of higher and higher salaries for administrators, not just presidents, chancellors, and provosts, is met with the refrain, it's what we have to pay to get the best talent. It's the going rate, etc.

What horsewallop!

No wonder tuitions nationwide, across the board, at private and public campuses, continue to increase, significantly above the level of inflation.

Compensation of course for top administrators is only a part of the picture, but it doesn't help. Faculty, and esp staff at places like UMB-Boston, continue to get screwed by legislatures, and politicians generally, esp. our Gov., Mitt Romney, high on his hill here in Belmont, overlooking my little neighborhood of two families and even a few 3 deckers a few blocks east.

Keep fighting the good fight.
